““For any of the good ecological stuff to happen, the social stuff needs to happen. I would love to see a community of interest forming, an intergenerational one that promotes the idea of justice, all the things that RE-PEAT stands for””
Empowering Youth Participation in Peatland Restoration
Building the next generation of peatland restoration stewards accross Europe
Purpose of the programme: expanding the peatland workforce
Because for most of us the best way to learn about peatlands is by getting your hands and feet “dirty”.
Call for collaborations
Our approach is grounded in participatory, hands-on learning camps, led by youth building meaningful relationships with and between local communities and land stewards.

foundational work
“Last year, during our visit to Ireland, everywhere we went we were reminded of the value of local rootedness and the deep relationships people have with their bogs. We came away inspired and convinced of the potential of youth-led restoration camps.
I really believe camps offer something special. They give young people the chance to immerse themselves in the landscape, learn by doing, and experience what it means to care for peatlands. They also create special moments for sharing knowledge across generations and building lasting connections with each other and the ecosystems around us.
I’m really excited that our first Irish RE-PEAT camp is coming to life this summer, together with wonderful local partners and an amazing team who share this vision.
It feels like something big is bubbling… I really hope this is just the first of many camps, and that more and more young people across Ireland will feel inspired to get involved and reconnect with their peatlands and local communities.”
