The Power of Storytelling

The Power of Storytelling

Why do people see peatlands as wastelands? Why do people see nature as a resource rather than a source? Perhaps the answer to these questions lies in the stories they were told and the language that was used to tell those stories.

In the old legends from the Celtic region, peatlands were often described with adjectives like ‘obscure’ and ‘dangerous’. In other myths, they were depicted as doorways to the ancestral and spiritual realm.

Today many of us are told stories of numbers and figures taking precedence over the ‘priceless’ elements of life.

Yet these particular stories are not told by everyone, some tell different tales.
