Once Upon a Wetland is a collaborative 2-day symposium all about empowering young people to work with India’s wonderful wetlands. This event will be co-hosted by RE-PEAT, Youth Engaged in Wetlands, and There is No Earth B

Why is this event being organised?   

Wetlands are some of the most powerful ecosystems when it comes to livelihoods, water, biodiversity, and climate. 

However, despite such high ecological and economical value provided by wetlands, Global Wetland Outlook published by the Ramsar Convention in 2018 pointed out that wetlands are disappearing three times faster than forests.    Wetlands need to be protected effectively for their ecosystem services, along with the implementation of conservation efforts at all levels, from policy-makers to local communities, including youth!    

Program

⭐️Day 1     🕰15:00 to 17:45 IST  

Session themes: 

 * Introduction to wetlands and linked ecosystem services  

*Community-led advocacy and public mobilisation for the conservation of local wetlands  

* Ecological modelling, use of AI, and upcoming technologies for monitoring wetlands  

* Formulation of national policies for wetland conservation and gaps in existing Indian policies     

⭐️Day 2   The second day will be all about putting the learning into on-the-ground action.     

We will be joined by organisations like Chennai Climate Action Group (@ccagofficial), There is No Earth B, Fridays for Future Andhra Pradesh (@fridaysforfuture.andhrapradesh), who will be presenting their journeys and some wetland-themed post-forum activities that you can stay involved with.
